Holy Thursday

Our tradition tells us that tonight, Jesus gathered with his closest friends and ate the Passover meal - his final meal.

So much of what we know about the Last Supper comes from the Gospel of John. The Synoptic Gospels handle it relatively quickly, but John spends a great deal of time not just on the dinner… but on Jesus’s words that night. His final teachings (at least, verbally).

I encourage you, sometime this weekend, to sit down with John 13 through 17, and just read it all, slowly.

Holy Week can feel like a lot. But buried among other dynamite lines, in John 15:11, Jesus tells his disciples:

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.”

Today’s Reflection: Put yourself in that moment. At that dinner. Imagine yourself at dinner, at the table, among friends.  Interacting with the disciples and with Jesus. What does it look like? What does it smell like? What does Jesus’s voice sound like? The look on His face? What you feel in your heart?
