For 46 weeks a year, before the gospel, we sing “Alleluia!”. One of my favorite small Lenten traditions is the slight adjustment to the gospel acclamation for the six Sundays of Lent.

There are variations, but most are close to: “Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory.”

What I love about this is the pent up energy it creates around that first Easter “Alleluia”. Lent is not simply meant as a time to confess our sins and deprive ourselves of chocolate. It is meant as preparation for the most amazing, impossible, incredible moment in human history: the Resurrection of Christ.

Today, let us feel that anticipation. Let us feel that wait, that longing.

The Resurrection is coming.

This belief is fundamental to who we are as Christians. The Resurrection is coming.

In our darkest moments, through our deepest grief, despite our greatest fears. The Resurrection is coming.

In the meantime, we will praise our king, we will honor our Lord, we will listen to the words of Jesus… but someday, someday soon, we will exclaim “Alleluia!!!!”

Someday soon we will exclaim “Alleluia!!!!”
