If you’re like me, when you hear the phrase “pray without ceasing” from 1 Thessalonians, you might think: “It’s hard enough for me to spend just a little time in prayer each day – how can I pray all day long??”

Perhaps the greatest example of this was Brother Lawrence – a Carmelite brother in the 17th century who was known for The Practice of the Presence of God. Brother Lawrence became famous for offering up the smallest of daily tasks (doing the dishes, cooking, sweeping the floor, etc.) to God throughout the entire day. It takes less than a few seconds to pause what we’re doing, offer a prayer to God, and then continue with our day.

Try it today and see how small acts of turning to God can add up throughout the day!

“He does not ask much of us, merely a thought of Him from time to time, a little act of adoration, sometimes to ask for His grace, sometimes to offer Him your sufferings, at other times to thank Him for the graces, past and present, He has bestowed on you, in the midst of your troubles to take solace in Him as often as you can. Lift up your heart to Him during your meals and in company; the least little remembrance will always be the most pleasing to Him. One need not cry out very loudly; He is nearer to us than we think.”
