Reading the lives of the saints can be inspiring. But it can also be scary - I am not good enough for that! I’ll never be good enough for that!
In Pope Francis’s Gaudete et Exsultate (“Rejoice and Be Glad”) he assures us that it’s not about copying the saints. It’s not about being exactly like the saints. It’s about becoming who we are called to be.
The saints are a model by which we can learn, find inspiration, grab pieces of what we like and what we don’t, and use those examples in our lives. We are not meant to be carbon copies. Because “the glory of God is the human being fully alive.” The glory of God is you, being you.
Pick a saint. Lord, what can I learn from her or him? How can I be uniquely me, with those lessons learned?
